We have always been told that "Marriage" is a marriage between two families. 'Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety' explores the new age version of the same belief where "Marriage" is a marriage between two friend circles. What happens when you decide to get married, but your best friend and your girlfriend can't see eye to eye. Sonu and Titu are childhood friends. Titu has always been a naïve lover, who falls in love easily and Sonu has always had to step in to save him. But Sweety is the perfect bride and Titu is head over heels in love with her. Sonu's instinct to protect Titu at whatever cost, makes him feel that she's too good to be true. What ensues is a war between the best friend and the bride to be. While Sweety is trying to impress Titu and the family alike, Sonu is out to sabotage the utopian romance.
Apart from very average and heavy reviews by the critics. Even rating the film as misogynist that made it as a fact on Wikipedia is an example of too much judging a film on grounds of objectivity when the scenario is much grey to be certified under any label. I found it completely an honest effort by the "Punchnama team" to bring up a light-hearted comedy considering today's scenario. I would also go even forward and say that there's at-least a director like Luv Ranjan who cares about problems and issues faced by male section apart from gaining sympathy by just highlighting crime against women in a most sadistic way which is now a very common issue on which films and documentaries are being made every day. We always praise role that seems attractive or is a central part of a story and forgot about salt, sugar in the dish. Sunny Singh as Titu is not a bit more or less but played his role in a most genuine way bringing realism to the character and also providing the required scope for Kartik Aryan as Sonu and Nushrat Bharucha as sweetie. Alok Nath as Ghasite appears in new cool is successful in catching the attention throughout. The climax is also sweet, good and with a right emotional mix. With whooping figures on the box office this year, this movie proved that if a genuine story is presented in a most genuine way without adding many toppings captivates the audience and give them a sense of lightness. I would not brief you the story but will tell you to just go, watch it with your partner and popcorns!!
