Hasbro celebrates 35 years of Transformers

It’s been 35 years since the launch of The Transformers, a property that took the 1980s by storm with a hugely successful toy line, Saturday morning cartoon and comic book series featuring the heroic adventures of the Autobots and their battles against the evil Decepticons.

And of course, throughout this all, we have the beloved toy line, which has now enthralled generations and remains one of the biggest selling toy brands of all time.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary, the lovely people at Hasbro were kind enough to send us over a free sample of some of the latest Transformers toys – and there’s certainly plenty to love for old school Generation One fans here this year.

Jason Blum Hints At ‘Halloween 2’ Discussions As He Confirms Meeting With Jamie Lee Curtis

Believe it or not, last year’s “Halloween” reboot-quel earned more domestically than “Ocean’s 8,” “Ready Player One,” and “Bumblebee.” It was only a couple hundred thousand dollars behind ‘Fantastic Beasts 2.’ And making that more unbelievable is the fact that the budget for Jason Blum’s “Halloween” was a mere fraction of those films.

James Gunn won’t reveal whether The Suicide Squad is a sequel or reboot

When it was first announced that Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn would be heading to the DC Extended Universe to write and direct The Suicide Squad, it was said that the new movie would be a “relaunch” of the supervillain team-up, with producer Peter Safran subsequently describing it as a “total reboot” of the David Ayer directed-movie.

It’s since been revealed that Gunn has enlisted a number of cast members from the 2016 film, with Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) all reportedly reprising their roles, which of course casts some doubt on the movie’s status as “total reboot”.

Well, it seems that Gunn himself isn’t prepared to give anything away just yet, with the filmmaker tackling the question of whether The Suicide Squad is a sequel or a reboot during an interview with Entertainment Tonight by responding: “These terms are all so narrow,

Comic Book Review – Transformers #5

Ricky Church reviews Transformers #5…

Idw’s latest issue of Transformers makes a couple interesting developments in the story, though it’s still plagued somewhat by the same problems of the previous couple of issues. Brian Ruckely doesn’t focus as much on the world-building aspect this time around as he instead moves characters further into their journeys. However, some developments are introduced but then are left hanging rather abruptly.

Transformers #5 spends a lot of time jumping between characters in a quick succession of scenes, from Megatron giving his latest speech to Chromia learning of an alarming fact regarding the mysterious Rise or Bumblebee’s private meeting with a surprising bot. Ruckley again drops little hints as to the state of Cybertron’s past and society without actually going in depth into its history. It’s more little pieces that add up to a bigger picture, but we still don’t

A post shared by Michael Rooker (@michael_rooker) on May 10, 2019 at 11:30pm Pdt

It looks like Michael Rooker is set to be the first Guardians of the Galaxy star to join James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe reboot The Suicide Squad, with The Wrap reporting that Rooker is in talks to portray the character of King Shark.

Rooker’s casting should come as little surprise, given that he’s a good friend of Gunn’s and has worked on all of his directorial efforts (along with several films he’s produced).

If and when the deal closes, Rooker will join a cast that includes the returning Margot Robbie

Viacom Chief Bob Bakish Talks Paramount Turnaround and Pluto TV Integration

  • Variety
Viacom had a tough fiscal second quarter but the profit picture at Paramount Pictures continues to improve thanks to better performance at the box office and growth in television.

Viacom CEO Bob Bakish noted during the company’s earnings call on Friday that the new regime at the studio lead by chairman-ceo Jim Gianopulos has boosted the studio’s profit line by $500 million inside of three years. Second-quarter theatrical revenues more than tripled year-over-year, to $172 million, on the strength of “Bumblebee” and “What Men Want.”

Bakish also talked up the “ton of positive buzz” on upcoming Paramount releases including the Elton John biopic “Rocketman” and “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” a live-action spin on Nickelodeon’s “Dora the Explorer” kidvid classic.

On the TV side, the studio has 22 series in various phases of production, and landed renewals for Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and Netflix’s

Viacom Q2 Profit Rises 3% Despite Dips in Advertising, Affiliate Revenue

  • Variety
Viacom eked out a profit in its fiscal second quarter, even as revenue from several of its main business lines decreased.

The owner of MTV, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures reported adjusted earnings of $383 million, or 95 cents a share, compared with $371 million, or 92 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Analysts had expected adjusted earnings of 81 cents per share. Profit for the period was up 3.2%.

Executives cited numerous headwinds that coalesced in the second quarter but promised the second half of its fiscal year would yield stronger results. However, Viacom revised its previous guidance of low single-digit growth in operating income on a full-year basis to a low-to-mid single-digit decline because of planned investments in the newly acquired Pluto TV ad-supported streaming platform.

Overall, Viacom’s total revenue fell 6% to nearly $2.96 billion, compared with nearly $3.15 billion in the year-earlier period. Advertising tumbled 7% to $1.033 billion, the company said, largely due to a 19% dip in international ad sales.

Home Entertainment: ‘Bumblebee’ Blu-ray Review

Following on from his huge success with the brilliant Kubo and the Two Strings, filmmaker Travis Knight becomes the first filmmaker (who isn’t Michael Bay) to tackle a live-action Transformers movie. Bumblebee acts as a spin-off/ prequel to the five movies that had graced screens previously, and this one might just be the best so far.

The reason why Bumblebee works is its simplicity. Even though there are other Autobots and Decepticons involved in the narrative, it is absolutely the yellow Beetle’s film, and because there is enough time to solely concentrate on his origin story, it works wonderfully. One of the other positives of the film is the performance of Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie, the other hero of the story who is finding her own way through life, turning 18 in the opening scenes and struggling with the loss of her father.

We hit the ground running from the outset,
