Better than I expected!
6 January 2017 | by See all my reviews

Wow... That's all I can say after watching the first two episodes of Emerald City. The story line is absolutely spectacular! The scenery, costumes, makeup, cast and special effects are all just incredible! I love the dark and morbid tone to this series unlike that of The Wizard of Oz (1939). The modern spin on the classic tale of Oz is highly attractive to watch. This show is indeed a more dark, twisted and adult themed side to L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz series- and I really like it! The movie I grew up loving as a child has finally returned as a dark, intriguing and more mature television series. Despite some negative reviews, this is truly an amazing spin on one of history's greatest adolescent tales! Toto is a K-9 Police Dog. The Wicked Witch of the East is played by a talented African- American actress- which is really amazing to see as an anomaly to the film's casting of the witches. The Munchkins have been replaced by savage and hostile people who reside in the snowier region of Oz. I love how unpredictable this show is. This show includes violence, the harshness of reality and villainous characteristics possessed by clearly well-developed characters- all making it more dark and realistic to endure. Will Dorothy make it out of Oz alive? Who knows. This 21st Century tale transforms Oz into a more different and darker place than how I viewed it as a kid- and it really intrigues me. Emerald City is the best new show of 2017 so far, and I cannot wait to see what the future episodes bring to the table.
