Storyline

Set in the East End of London, the show focuses on the tensions between love and family with stories ranging from hard-hitting social issues, to personal, human tragedies. And there's plenty of funny moments too. Classic characters old and new across thousands of episodes have shared a drink in The Queen Vic, shed tears of despair or joy, sat on Arthur's bench in the Square - and at some point or other they probably crossed paths with Ian Beale. Trivia

Penned scripts for the exit of Sid Owen as Ricky Butcher in April 2000 had to be rewritten to account for the absence of Mike Reid who played Ricky's father Frank. The storyline initially planned to have Frank and Ricky involved in one of EastEnders renowned two-hander episodes, but due to Reid's off-screen ill-health, Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, had to stand in for the episode, which saw Ricky flee Walford. Best Soap Ever
24 December 2003 | by rossrobinsonSee all my reviews

I love Eastenders to bits, the cast are fantastic actors/actresses. I think that now eastenders have got the awards back on after been beaten with Coronation St last year because of the Tricky Dicky Richard Hillman, Eastenders i think will do alot better now that they have Dirty Den Watts back in the show. It's going to be tough years for the other soaps because Eastenders have always won best soap of the year i think since 1999 or i maybe wrong. It's going to be tough now that dirty Den is back beacause i think a lot of peopel will watch it with him in it because years ago there was alot of viewers watching the scene in 1986 when Dirty Den Divorced Angie Watts. I think there was at least more than 20 Million viewers watching that episode. I give EASTENDERS 10 out of 10.
