When an airline pilot (guest star Yasmine Al Massri) accuses her captain (guest star Martin Donovan) of sexual assault, Barba (Raúl Esparza) convenes a Grand Jury to determine their employer's complicity in the crime.
Carisi (Peter Scanavino) opens a police investigation when his niece reports a classmate for sexual assault, and Stone (Philip Winchester) learns there are no perfect witnesses when it comes to sex crimes.
First I thought it was great that the writers had Olivia adopting a son. It's nice to see her evolve and be fulfilled outside of work. But now, three episodes in to the season, it feels like a tacky ploy to write new trauma for the women. Abuse allegations and a magical blood relative who just happens to show up wanting Noah?! Come on! At this rate, he'll be kidnapped, then his nanny will turn out to be a child abuser, only to have him die of cancer by the season's end. Enough already! If I wanted ridiculous family drama, I'd watch soap operas. Leave the kid alone. Let Olivia have one normal thing in her life. I hate all three of these episodes. Tired, and forgettable.
Although the entire Law and Order series of shows has always been well done, I find it irritating that there are so many breaks in continuity. What happened to the good old days of TV, when you could depend upon your favorite show faithfully appearing every week on a regular schedule?
Because there are many ongoing "sub stories" concerning various characters' lives, the frequent (and often lengthy) time lapses between shows often makes it difficult to recall who is doing what, and with/to whom. With many of the series that I watch, I've been simply waiting until the entire season has completed and I can have uninterrupted access to the progression of events.
I've been a fan of SUV since it's inception; however, if I had to depend upon weekly viewings as scheduled on TV and was unable to wait until I could watch them via a streaming service, I would have lost enthusiasm long ago. These continual, wildly irregular breaks in episodes have been irritating.
I'm not sure what's going on with the show writers but the stories are beginning to be recycled. Take the episode named Complicated, Season 19, Episode 5. Replace the actors and it is the exact same plot line, down to the twist as Stranger, Season 10, Episode 11. The writers perhaps expected fans of the show to have forgotten about previous episodes, after all, it was 9 seasons ago, but the attempt failed at least for me. I am hopeful that in the future the writers can come up with more creative stories rather than recycle old ones. Then again, there are only so many stories one could tell and the show has been out for a very long time. Perhaps, it is time to consider retirement, although that would be quite sad as I'm still a fan of the show.
Edit: "Info Wars" - another recycled episode (at least partially), this time from the original Law and Order - Season 17. Episode 13 - Talking Points. Change a few plot tactics and you end up with Info Wars, except targeted towards SVU cases.
2nd Edit: "The Undiscovered Country" - Great case, one that should be deeply discussed. And, whilst perhaps the US won't catch up to Belgium, when it comes to matters of "right-to-die", maybe we can move a step forward. Sad to see Barba leave SVU. Although the new ADA looks promising, and quite handsome too. I am hopeful the show will go in a new direction, this episode, whilst still covered in previous LAO and its spin-offs, put a refreshing tone to the series.
I would go lower than this if I could. Several episodes are nothing more than aSELFISH writer trying to push their political and social beliefs down an unsuspecting audience.. If one has to use an outlet to hijack others to listen to their personal views, (POLITICAL AND SOCIAL), SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE MESSEAGE AND THE MESSAGIS IS NOT BEING DELIEVERD IN THE CCORRECT VENUE. I for one, turn the tv on to GET AWAY from selfish, dangerous people trying to influence my right to my own beliefs. Dick wolf will be avoided in this home from here on out. No more law and order chicago police/fire anything this selfish man has his name on will NOT be on my screen. If you dislike this country so much, why do you stay?.
All is well here honestly. The collection is built to order with Amazon. If you read the description it clearly states they come on DVD-R discs. There’s no bells or whistles here, it’s just the episodes which is what I need. I have the entire collection so I’m just glad we are able to keep them up to date with the changing times.
