The Inspiration Behind Lucy in the Sky Is One of the Most Bizarre News Stories of the 2000s

  • Popsugar
At surface level, Lisa Nowak had it all - a wholesome family life and a bustling career as a Nasa astronaut. But just over a decade ago, her life turned a complete 180 degrees. Dressing up in a wig and wearing an adult diaper, she drove over 900 miles to confront the woman whom her ex-lover was seeing, a move that led to her dismissal from Nasa shortly after her successful space mission. Natalie Portman, with cropped hair and a Southern twang, brings a loose adaptation of Nowak's scandal to the big screen this year alongside Jon Hamm in Lucy in the Sky. Suffice to say, the movie doesn't need all that much embellishment, as the real-life debacle that unfolded was truly out of this world.

Nowak's Career

Nowak flourished in a highly accomplished career. In 1987, she became a Naval Flight Officer in Nas Pensacola, Fl, later entering the Nasa Astronaut Corps at the Johnson Space Center.

Tommy Lee and Heather Locklear's Wedding Was Way More Civil Than We Anticipated

  • Popsugar
Netflix's new biopic film The Dirt tells the story of the early days of rock icons Mötley Crüe, from their music to their struggles and low points to, yes, their love lives. One of the most important relationships depicted is between drummer Tommy Lee and his second wife, actress Heather Locklear. Their wedding was one of the surprising but highly covered celebrity weddings of the 1980s.

Lee and Locklear married on May 10, 1986. Locklear was just 24 years old, and Lee was only 23. The match was described, in polite terms, as a mismatch: Lee was in the prime of his edgy rock-and-roll lifestyle, while Locklear was one of Hollywood's favorite TV ingenues. People had a detailed account of the wedding, which was held at the Santa Barbara Biltmore, with about 500 guests.

Lee wore a white leather tux (and was chewing gum up until the ceremony officially started). Locklear's dress was a fitted,

Us: There's a Reason Each Tethered Wears a Single Brown Glove
With Jordan Peele's Us breaking box-office records and blowing minds on the internet, we can safely declare that the Oscar-winning director has created a fascinating new monster mythology through the introduction of the Tethered. But while most of us are still wrapping our heads around those voiceless doppelgängers, some fans believe they've unlocked every cultural reference our dastardly doubles have to offer thanks to the chilling meaning they bring to the film's twist ending and Hands Across America imagery. However, we urge everyone to take a second look.

Peele recently revealed to The La Times that the movie's opening sequence, set on a Santa Cruz boardwalk during Summer of 1986, provides a major clue as to why the Tethered wear a single fingerless leather glove on their right hand. The answer surfaces the moment young Adelaide's father (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) wins her the Michael Jackson "Thriller" t-shirt. Peele explains, "It's no mistake,

Us: The Brilliant Significance Behind the Names of the Tethered
Jordan Peele's new horror thriller Us is creeping out audiences left and right. With a series of unsettling twists - some of which are all the more unsettling for being somewhat plausible - Us has become the buzzy movie sensation of the Spring.

Warning: spoilers ahead!

One of the big twists in the movie is the presence of evil doppelgangers called the Tethered, the results of a government cloning experiment gone awry. Although few of the doubles are named on screen, the end credits reveal that all of them have names - some of which are laden with meaning.

Red (Lupita Nyong'o) is a nickname that has some historical significance, especially in the context of a rebel character. Malcolm X, in his early years of criminal activity in Harlem, went by the nickname "Detroit Red." In American culture, "red" is a historically loaded term in other ways, as it

Valkyrie's Survival Has Been Confirmed by a New Set of Avengers: Endgame Character Posters
Warning: Yes, even this post spoils most of Avengers: Infinity War.

Listen, I get it. There was no way Marvel would be able to fit every single superhero into Avengers: Infinity War. And truth be told, they did a pretty remarkable job with the amount of characters they did manage to include. But you know how it goes. With so many characters and only so much airtime, a few names were bound to fall by the wayside.

There's no sign of Hawkeye in Infinity War. He's mentioned in the same breath as Ant-Man, who is also noticeably absent. While the former seems to be steering clear of the drama to protect himself and his family, Ant-Man has been placed under house arrest due to the events that go down in Captain America: Civil War (he also has a young daughter to think of). So that's all fine and dandy, but there's another character who's missing.

The Dirt: What Really Happened When Vince Neil Crashed His Car

  • Popsugar
Netflix's "behind the music" movie The Dirt follows rock band Mötley Crüe in their early days, when they were fully engrossed in both their music and in a hard-partying, drug-fueled, often unsettling lifestyle. Their 2001 autobiography, The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, became a bestseller and inspired the Netflix film. In the book, lead singer Vince Neil opened up about one of the most tragic events in the band's history: the night he crashed his car while driving drunk, killing a colleague and permanently injuring two strangers.

On December 8, 1984, Neil was driving to a liquor store in Hollywood, along with Razzle, the drummer of the band Hanoi Rocks. The two bands had both been at a party thrown in honor of Hanoi Rocks's first American tour (the band was from Finland), and everyone at the party had already been drinking a lot. Neil and Razzle decided
